Heritage from m0n0wall

t1n1wall inherits architectural ideas and operational patterns from m0n0wall lineage.

What carries over

  • Interface assignment and segmentation fundamentals
  • Stateful firewall and NAT reasoning
  • Console-first recovery model for network appliances

What does not carry over directly

Historical content may include references that are no longer appropriate for current operations.

Terminology adaptation

  • ipfilter / ipf in older material -> use pf terminology and workflows in t1n1wall docs.

Legacy technology notes

  • Browser plugin-era instructions (for example, old SVG viewer guidance) are obsolete and intentionally excluded.
  • PPTP appears in historical docs but is legacy-only and not recommended for modern high-security deployments.
