Getting Started (Home/Lab)

This tutorial gets a first t1n1wall system online with WAN/LAN and Web UI access.

Prerequisites

  • A target machine or VM with at least two network interfaces
  • One image file (.img or .iso)
  • Console access (local, serial, or VM console)

Step 1: Install and boot

Follow Install Images to write media and boot.

Step 2: Assign interfaces

At console setup:

  1. Assign WAN to upstream network
  2. Assign LAN to internal network
  3. Confirm LAN IP/subnet

Step 3: Open Web UI

  1. Connect a client to LAN
  2. Browse to the LAN address shown on console
  3. Sign in and change defaults

Step 4: Validate connectivity

  • LAN client gets DHCP lease
  • LAN client can reach Internet
  • DNS resolves correctly

Step 5: Apply a minimal baseline

  • Review firewall default policy
  • Configure admin password and backup config
  • Confirm time/NTP and hostname

Troubleshooting

If Web UI is unreachable:

  • Re-check interface assignment order
  • Verify client is on LAN subnet
  • Verify no duplicate IP with upstream router
